ECO designed and directed the compensation grouting program conducted for the excavation of two 14′ diameter tunnels beneath a state highway in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

ECO designed and prepared submittals on behalf of the Contractor, EJM Pipe Services Ltd., and provided key grouting personnel for the three month long duration of the tunneling project.

As part of this project, ECO re-engineered a used grout plant and added additional equipment (mixers, holding tanks, and pumping systems) in order to produce a grout plant capable of producing 25 cubic yards/hour of grout. The plant used three silos to feed dry materials, a large holding tank for pre-hydration of bentonite, two high shear mixers, three holding tanks and a series of pumps. The grout plant could be operated with one or two crew members. A unique grout comprising inexpensive non-cement based suspension grout was developed by ECO for the project.
