Dorchester Road Sewer Rehabilitation, Niagara Falls, Ontario

Niagara Falls, Ontario
1989-90

Man accessible, leaking concrete sewer joints, located below the water table beneath a roadway, triggered an internal soil erosion process resulting in the formation of major sinkholes that posed danger to local traffic. An immediate remedy was necessary to restore safety to the public and provide extended life to the sewer system.

ECO proposed and implemented a proven sewer rehabilitation technique, developed by ECO’s founder, to quickly repair and stabilize the buried structure. This technique involved:

  • cleaning of the existing sewer line,
  • sealing of all sewer joints through injection of hydrophobic, water reactive polyurethane,
  • pressure grouting through short sleeve pipes installed from within the sewer line to consolidate surrounding soils and restore uniform pipe support.

Over 1500 meters of sewer line with diameters as small as 760 mm were successfully rehabilitated using this environmentally friendly technology. Moreover, the project was executed without interruption to the traffic above.
