Manhole Rehabilitation to Stop Seawater Infiltration

Halifax 2013

One of Halifax Water Commission’s’ manholes suffered from severe inflow and infiltration from what was mostly Atlantic Ocean water.  During high tide, the inflow was approximately 5 liters per second.

ECO’s services were retained to design a crack injection grouting program using semi-rigid, water reactive polyurethane grout to seal the crack and stop the inflow.  ECO provided on site engineering and direction of the grouting operation and trained the Halifax Regional Water Commission’s maintenance crew in proper polyurethane injection techniques.

The manhole was successfully rehabilitated and all infiltration was eliminated.
